Representative Jasmine Crockett (D., Texas) may be in legal jeopardy for hiding ownership of stocks in at least 25 companies from her congressional financial disclosures. This allegation comes from a complaint revealed by the Washington Free Beacon.
As a Texas state lawmaker in 2021, Crockett reported owning shares in 28 firms across various industries, including pharmaceuticals, fossil fuels, technology, automobiles, and marijuana. However, she omitted 25 of these stocks from her congressional disclosures for the same year.
Notably, some of these companies potentially benefited from legislation she introduced in Congress.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a nonpartisan watchdog, filed the complaint with the Office of Congressional Conduct. FACT suspects Crockett’s incomplete disclosures might violate the Ethics in Government Act, which can impose prison time on politicians who knowingly submit false financial reports.
“When Members of Congress fail to accurately and fully disclose their financial interests, it undermines the integrity of our government and erodes the public’s trust,” said Kendra Arnold, FACT’s executive director.
These allegations raise serious concerns about transparency and ethics in public office.
Jasmine Crockett is under scrutiny for allegedly hiding stock holdings in her disclosures, risking legal consequences under ethics laws meant to ensure government transparency.
