Several people became ill at Joint Base Andrews, a US military base near Washington, after a suspicious package containing an unknown white powder was delivered and opened.
The package was opened inside a building that also houses the Air National Guard Readiness Center. Following the event, the building and an adjacent connecting building were evacuated, and a safety perimeter was set up around the area.

First responders at Joint Base Andrews arrived promptly and found no immediate threat. The affected individuals were treated at the on-base Malcolm Grove Medical Center. The scene was handed over to the Office of Special Investigations, which is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
