Presiding Bishop Gérald Caussé was announced Thursday as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
At 62 years old, Elder Caussé has served as the church's presiding bishop for the past 11 years. He was called to the apostleship and ordained the same day by President Dallin H. Oaks and other leaders in the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
"I've always had a testimony of Jesus Christ," Elder Caussé said in a statement. "He's always been in the center of my life. And I know he's our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That's the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives."
Elder Caussé has served as a counselor in the Presiding Bishopric and as a General Authority Seventy.
He married Valérie Babin on August 5, 1986, in the Bern Switzerland Temple.
His church callings have led him and his family to live in Germany and the United States.
Gérald Caussé’s appointment brings international leadership experience and deep devotion to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
