Millions in Firing Line for Severe Weather

Millions of Australians along the east coast are preparing for potentially severe storms and heavy rain this weekend after a turbulent start to the storm season.

Storm Forecasts for Sydney and Surrounding Areas

Sydney is expected to experience late thunderstorms and strong winds on both Friday and Saturday evenings, following warm daytime temperatures.

Weather Outlook from Bureau of Meteorology

“Much of south eastern Australia is set for a number of ‘unsettled days’ over Friday and Saturday due to a developing cold front,” said Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Jonathon Howe.

He added,

“Today (Friday) we are looking at the possibility of thunderstorms all the way from southern Victoria across to South Australia and up into northern parts of New South Wales.”

Severe Weather Conditions Expected

Mr. Howe noted that damaging wind gusts could accompany Saturday's thunderstorms in the affected regions.

Heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and large hail are also possible from Wollongong through Sydney, Newcastle, the Hunter Region, Mid North Coast, and into interior Queensland.
