Singer Tish Hyman reported that her Gold’s Gym membership was canceled after she raised concerns about a transgender woman using the women’s locker room in Los Angeles. She described the experience as her “worst” at the Beverly Center location.
The gym, recently purchased by EoS Fitness, has been overwhelmed with negative feedback online. Over two dozen one-star Google reviews appeared within 24 hours, many referencing the dispute involving the locker room incident.
Newsweek reached out to the Beverly Center Gold’s Gym branch for comments through their website contact form but received no immediate reply.
This controversy reflects ongoing tensions in the United States regarding transgender rights and women's privacy, especially in shared public spaces.
“Today I was naked in the locker room. I turned around, and there was a man there,” Hyman said, describing her experience.
Since January, President Donald Trump has enacted several executive orders targeting transgender issues, including "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports," which threatens to withdraw funding from educational programs allowing transgender athletes to participate in women’s and girls’ sports.
The dispute at Gold’s Gym highlights the sharp divisions in current U.S. debates over transgender inclusion and women’s safety in communal facilities.
