If you are planning a trip to the Rockies this weekend, prepare for more than just hiking boots; a snowsuit might be necessary. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a snowfall warning for Alberta’s mountain areas.
Heavy, wet snow is expected to begin Friday evening in Banff and near Lake Louise, continuing through Saturday night. Accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres are forecasted within 24 hours.
“Travel will likely be challenging. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”
Those heading to the mountains should plan carefully and drive with caution. ECCC advises allowing extra travel time, keeping headlights on, reducing speed, and maintaining a safe following distance.
