Edgar Wright Says He’s Still On A “Cape Break” 12 Years After Leaving ‘Ant-Man’ & Once Considered A Choose Your Own Adventure Cut Of ‘Shaun Of The Dead’

Edgar Wright Reflects on Leaving Marvel’s "Ant-Man"

Edgar Wright has stated he has “no regrets” about his decision to leave Marvel’s Ant-Man. In a recent interview on The Playlist’s Discourse Podcast, where he discussed his upcoming film The Running Man, Wright shared his thoughts on departing from superhero filmmaking and why he hasn't felt compelled to return.

No Regrets and Creative Differences

Wright explained that he began developing Ant-Man well before Iron Man was released. By the time the Marvel brand and continuity were firmly established, he felt the opportunity to create something unique was diminishing.

“I didn’t regret my decision to leave at all. I had started working on that film long before even ‘Iron Man’ came out. By the time it came around, they had established the brand, the continuity, and even a certain way of making a movie. So the chance to do something really different was going away.”

When asked if he still lost sleep over the departure, Wright responded with humor, indicating he moved on without remorse.

An Interactive Take on "Shaun of the Dead"

Wright also revealed a unique, unrealized idea for a Shaun of the Dead sequel. He envisioned it as a “choose your own adventure” style film, turning the zombie comedy into an interactive experience, though this concept never came to fruition.
