Chicago weather: Models hint at possible snowfall this weekend

Chicago Weather Outlook: Possible Snowfall This Weekend

Mild fall conditions will continue through Friday before a weather system could bring the first mix of rain and snow this season to the Chicago area. FOX 32's Mike Caplan provides the latest forecast.

Short-Term Forecast

Today will be mostly sunny despite a passing cold front, accompanied by breezy winds. High temperatures will vary from the low to mid 50s in northern counties to the low 60s in southern counties. Tonight will be mostly clear and chilly, with lows in the 30s.

Tomorrow will begin with some clouds, but skies will become cloudier by late afternoon. Temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 50s. After midnight, a few light showers may move through the area, though rainfall amounts are expected to be minimal.

On Friday, after early showers, there will be sunshine and mild temperatures with highs reaching the low to mid 60s.

Weekend Weather Expectations

Saturday will start with a mix of sun and clouds, turning to rain late in the day. Computer models increasingly suggest that cold air will move in overnight, potentially changing some rain over to snow.

Both the US and European models "are showing this scenario to at least some extent."

However, significant snow accumulation does not seem likely at this time.

Summary

While mild fall weather dominates early in the week, a weekend system may bring Chicago its first rain-to-snow mix of the season, with minimal accumulation expected.
