Before watching the new biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere, here is a look at the iconic singer-songwriter’s notable residences. Bruce Springsteen, famously tied to New Jersey, is now a billionaire as Forbes reports. Despite his working-class roots reflected in his music, he continues to live near his hometown in New Jersey.
Between 1974 and 1975, Springsteen rented a small cottage at 7½ West End Court in Long Branch. Built in the 1920s, the house had two bedrooms and one bathroom and covered 828 square feet, located just a short walk from Long Branch Beach. It was in this modest home that he wrote the album Born to Run, which propelled his career nationally.
“It was the most horrible period in my life. I was born, grew old, and died making that album.”
According to biographer Meredith Ochs, this was the first time Springsteen lived independently, though the creative process was taxing, and he did not particularly enjoy his seaside surroundings.
After Long Branch, Springsteen moved to Holmdel, where seclusion was a key benefit. The location allowed him and the E Street Band to practice daily without worrying about disturbing neighbors, according to The Bruce Springsteen Vault.
“Springsteen and the E Street Band held daily band practice on the premises and didn’t have to worry about making too much noise.”
Springsteen’s homes reflect his Deep New Jersey roots and dedication to his craft, living in humble settings that supported his musical journey from the start.
