BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — Emergency crews are responding to a major four-alarm fire in Remington, which has prompted local evacuations due to intense smoke. The incident began around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of 23rd Street and Hampden Road.

According to reports from the Baltimore Sun, what started as a three-alarm fire was quickly escalated to four alarms. Firefighters from the Baltimore Fire Department are working to contain the blaze centered in the 400 block of West 23rd Street and have urged residents to avoid the area.

“Homes in the 400 block of W. 23rd Street are being evacuated,” said Joey Henderson from the Office of Emergency Management.

The Maryland Transit Administration has implemented a temporary southbound detour for LocalLink 94, rerouting buses to Fort McHenry until 5 p.m.
