Emergency services were called to Rayleigh railway station early this morning following reports of a person on the tracks. The individual was later confirmed dead at the scene.
Paramedics arrived at the station shortly after 5 a.m. after receiving a call about the incident.
“We were called to Rayleigh railway station shortly after 5 a.m. this morning with reports that a person had been hit by a train. Two ambulances and an ambulance officer vehicle were sent to the scene. Sadly, the person was pronounced dead at the scene,” said an East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson.
The British Transport Police confirmed that one person died after being struck by a train at Rayleigh station. The incident caused temporary disruptions across the Greater Anglia network.
By late morning, Greater Anglia announced that all lines had reopened, and services were operating between Wickford and Southend Victoria, although delays and short-notice changes remained possible.
“Services are still subject to delays, short notice alterations and cancellations whilst we recover to our advertised timetable,” a spokesperson for Greater Anglia said.
