Two major recreational facilities in Castlegar will be closed for most of the summer of 2026 to allow for essential maintenance work. The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) will undertake projects at the Castlegar and District Community Complex (CDCC).
The dry arena floor closure will enable the installation of a low-emissivity ceiling and attic insulation. These upgrades aim to improve energy efficiency and prolong the arena roof's life.
During the pool closure, annual maintenance and the next phase of roof replacement will be carried out, including interior work that requires the pool to be empty.
“Maintaining our assets through regular maintenance and timely capital improvements, ensures they remain safe, efficient, and reliable for our community,” said Craig Stanley, RDCK regional manager of operations and asset management.
Local groups such as swim clubs and lacrosse organizations have been notified of the closures. Residents are advised to plan ahead when purchasing memberships, as both facilities will be fully closed during the specified periods.
Summary: The CDCC will undergo vital arena and pool maintenance in summer 2026, with extended closures to enhance safety, energy efficiency, and facility lifespan.
