Ken Jennings, host of the popular game show Jeopardy!, addressed a recent clue that caused backlash among fans. The clue referenced a meme and read: “A.I. generated the TikTok image of this pig/human eventually killed by Tim Cheese.”
All three contestants appeared confused, staring blankly at Jennings. Before revealing the answer, “Who is John Pork?”, Jennings admitted,
“I didn’t understand any of that.”
The issue was not the difficulty of the clue but the way the online meme was described. Fans quickly reacted on Jeopardy!’s official Instagram:
“John Pork isn’t AI don’t slander him!”
“JOHN PORK IS NOT AI.”
“Upset I immediately knew the answer even with the question phrased incorrectly, he was NOT AI!”
Jennings later addressed the controversy in a TikTok video posted on Saturday, November 2:
“When we played a clue recently on ‘Jeopardy!’ about John Pork, I remarked that I didn’t understand a word of it. Well, I’ve had the chance to learn quite a bit since that clue aired about the late Mr. Pork, including the fact that some viewers took exception with our description of him as AI-generated. Now, even though AI is used heavily in many of his TikToks, it’s possible that wasn’t the best wording to refer to his original appearances.”
Jennings acknowledged the confusion and apologized for the wording that upset fans.
