Reghan Grimes needed only five points to join the 1,000-point club this season. Instead, the Tennessee Tech senior scored 24 points Monday night to lead the Golden Eagles to a 92-67 win against the University of the Cumberlands at the Eblen Center.
The Golden Eagles shot nearly 50 percent from the field, finishing 30-for-61, while hitting 10-of-22 from beyond the arc and 22-of-33 at the free-throw line. However, the team was challenged by 33 fouls called against them, putting seven players close to disqualification.
The visiting Patriots benefited from 50 attempts at the free-throw line, converting 32 for a 64-percent success rate. Joy Kendrick led the Cumberlands with 21 points despite shooting 4-for-15 from the field and going 12-for-15 on free throws.
