Photos of the Ka-Bar knife sheath have been made public for the first time amid a release of over 2,300 pages of evidence by the Idaho State Police. This sheath was a crucial piece of evidence that led to Bryan Kohberger being identified as the murderer of four University of Idaho students.
Kohberger left behind a brown leather Ka-Bar knife sheath at the crime scene shortly after the attacks on November 13, 2022. The victims were Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. DNA found on the sheath was traced through forensic genetic genealogy to Kohberger, a 30-year-old criminology PhD student.
Kohberger purchased the sheath along with a Ka-Bar knife, believed to be the murder weapon, from Amazon in March 2022. This was eight months before the murders and three months prior to his relocation from Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, to Pullman, Washington.
The knife itself has never been recovered by investigators.
