"Past Lives" by Jay Som ft. Hayley Williams - Northern Transmissions
Jay Som is the musical project of Melina Duterte, a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer. She plans to release her new album Belong on November 7. Ahead of the album launch, Jay Som shares the track "Past Lives," featuring Hayley Williams from Paramore.
The collaboration came about when the two artists met in Nashville to write a song together, along with Steph Marziano. Williams’ gentle harmonies on “Past Lives” enhance the song’s melancholic feeling of drifting through difficult moments, capturing the struggle of finding drive only to see it slip away.
This song is powerful, especially in its slowed middle section, which feels like an internal battle. Duterte describes the collaboration:

The album Belong features contributions from Joao Gonzalez (Soft Glas), Mal Hauser (Mk.gee, Illuminati Hotties), Steph Marziano (producer for Vundabar, Hot Wax, Sir Chloe), and Kyle Pulley. For the first time, Jay Som also welcomed guest vocalists on this record.
