Jay Som has unveiled the video for "Past Lives," a collaboration with Paramore's Hayley Williams, ahead of her performance at the Pitchfork Festival London on Saturday, November 8th.
The song, from her first album in over six years, Belong, has quickly become a fan favorite—a slow-burning indie gem. The animated video, directed by Daniel Topete, vividly captures the song’s theme of deep reflection through striking colors.
Released earlier this year on Lucky Number, Belong marks a strong comeback for Jay Som after a lengthy hiatus from solo work. Since her 2019 album Anak Ko, she has built an impressive resume in indie music, producing and engineering for artists like boygenius, Lucy Dacus, Troye Sivan, and Beabadoobee.
She also toured with Boygenius, contributing guitar and vocals to their live performances.
Jay Som said about the album: “Belong is about trying to find where I fit after stepping away for a while.”
Over 11 tracks, she explores this journey of self-discovery through her music.
Author’s summary: Jay Som’s new album Belong and its single “Past Lives” showcase her artistic growth and reflective indie sound, enriched by collaboration with Hayley Williams and critical praise.
