LSU made a quarterback change during the third quarter of their game against No. 4 Alabama on Saturday night. Sophomore Michael Van Buren replaced senior starter Garrett Nussmeier with LSU trailing 17-6 and 6:26 left in the third quarter at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
This was Van Buren's first appearance this season in a close game situation. Previously, Nussmeier had played every offensive snap against Alabama, completing 18 of 21 passes for 121 yards without touchdowns or interceptions.
LSU interim coach Frank Wilson noted that Van Buren might be used in specific situations against the Crimson Tide, although Nussmeier had initially played every offensive snap.
It is currently unclear if Nussmeier will return to the game. This update is part of LSU football coverage supported by The Baton Rouge Clinic.
