Murray Baker Bridge to be lit for Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Indigenous Peoples' Day Celebration on Murray Baker Bridge

The City of Peoria is commemorating Indigenous Peoples' Day by specially lighting the Murray Baker Bridge.

The bridge will be illuminated in four colors to honor the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, which includes the Peoria, Kaskaskia, Wea, and Piankashaw tribes.

Today, and every day, we recognize and respect the enduring presence, resilience, and cultural contributions of Indigenous peoples and we honor the First Peoples of this region and their continuing role in shaping our shared future.

The tribal emblem features an arrowhead with four crossed arrows, each representing one of the tribes. The emblem's red background symbolizes the tribe's past, while the large arrowhead of natural color represents the present generation, pointing downward to indicate peace.
