Editor: Two federal prosecutors have been placed on leave by the Justice Department, which also removed references to the Jan. 6 Capitol event from court filings (pressdemocrat.com).
It appears, according to our own government, that the event never happened. Countries that have altered or erased parts of their history include Russia, Hungary, China, and Germany.
What else would the Justice Department want us to forget? For me, it would be the phrase “land of the free and home of the brave.” When that description is lost, then what?
Editor: Teachers and staff at Santa Rosa City Schools are calling for a new audit of the district’s accounts (“Teachers union rallies for outside audit,” Nov.).
However, an audit only verifies if the spending and balances are correctly recorded. It does not assess whether the spending is necessary or effective. Audits consume time and money, resources that the teachers, staff, and district currently lack.
I have reviewed the district’s finances over the years, and audits consistently return perfect or near-perfect results. These formal audits usually take about six months to complete. A few years ago, using the Public Records Act, I obtained detailed financial records and analyzed the numbers carefully.
Author’s summary: These letters express concern over historical revisionism and question the effectiveness and timing of another audit for Santa Rosa schools.
