Audible unveiled its new experiential retail and community hub, The Pillars, in Newark’s Arts & Education District. The renovated space spans 15,000 square feet on the ground floor at 33 Washington Street.
The October ribbon-cutting event featured notable speakers such as Mayor Ras Baraka, Audible CEO Bob Carrigan, and New Jersey Senate Majority Leader Teresa Ruiz, representing the 29th District. Local business owners occupying three of the four retail spaces also participated.
The Pillars aims to serve as a neighborhood anchor, fostering growth by attracting local businesses, visitors, and community members to the area.
“The Pillars marks Audible’s most ambitious investment yet in Newark’s future — and the largest philanthropic contribution in the company’s history.” – Bob Carrigan, Audible CEO
Bob Carrigan, who took over as CEO from Audible founder Don Katz in 2019, highlighted that this is the first major investment in Newark during his tenure, reflecting long-term commitment to the city's development.
Audible's new community destination signals significant philanthropic and economic investment, underscoring the company's role in revitalizing Newark's urban landscape.
