A McDonald's branch located on Newmarket Road in Cambridge has applied to extend its opening hours despite having faced refusals for similar plans previously. Currently, the restaurant operates from 7am until 11pm every day. The new proposal would allow it to open an hour earlier at 6am, maintaining the closing time of 11pm, seven days a week.
The application was submitted by Savills on behalf of McDonald's. In the cover letter, Savills emphasized that this change is not expected to cause any unacceptable disturbance to local residents. They highlighted that other nearby establishments have varying hours of operation.
"For example, Papa John's is open until 3am each day of the week. This application simply seeks to extend the trading hours by an additional hour from that which is currently approved. We therefore anticipate that the proposal is entirely acceptable in terms of the extra hour of operation in the early morning trading period as no complaints have been received."
Savills noted the majority of customers visit during the early morning hours. The extension is seen as beneficial economically, allowing the fast food restaurant to better serve its customers and potentially increase revenue during that additional hour.
The McDonald's branch on Newmarket Road aims to open one hour earlier each day, with assurances that this will not negatively impact the local community, reflecting a bid to better serve early customers and boost business.
