A tragic incident occurred this afternoon in Dandenong, where a woman and a child drowned after falling into a local waterway near Allan Street around 3:45 pm.
According to witnesses, the two were swept away by the current of Dandenong Creek. It is believed that the woman entered the water attempting to rescue the child but soon found herself in danger as well.
Police and emergency services arrived promptly and recovered the unconscious pair from the creek. Resuscitation efforts were made at the scene.
Despite their best efforts, emergency personnel were unable to revive them, and both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the identities of the victims. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
