Linda Bolton waited at Kelowna International Airport, her eyes tracking each new arrival from the sliding doors. Her friend gently reminded her to breathe, and Bolton laughed, realizing her excitement. She had every reason to be thrilled — reigning world curling champion Rachel Homan was arriving in the Okanagan to attend the British Columbia Women in Curling Summit, an event Bolton had dedicated months to organizing.
“When I picked up Rachel from the airport and saw her walking toward us, that was when I knew all the hard work was worth it,” Bolton said. “I thought: We actually have Rachel Homan at our club. What a treat for everyone.”
During the two-hour drive back to Kamloops, they spoke about family life, preparation for competitions, and the balance between personal commitments and professional goals.
“She talked a lot about her family and how devoted they are to backing her,” Bolton said. “It was really cool.”
Bolton had invested months into planning the Women in Curling Summit, part of Curling Canada’s broader effort to promote women’s leadership and engagement in the sport. The event held in Kamloops became a moment of connection and inspiration, emphasizing that friendship and collaboration can be just as empowering as competition.
