The Sacramento Kings have waived Isaac Jones to open a roster spot for Precious Achiuwa.
At 4:52 pm, the Kings confirmed the signing of Achiuwa and the waiving of Jones in a team press release.
Earlier at 9:17 am, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that Sacramento agreed to a one-year, minimum-salary contract with free agent forward/center Precious Achiuwa. To accommodate Achiuwa, the Kings were expected to waive second-year forward Isaac Jones.
NBA insider Jake Fischer noted the Kings' interest in Achiuwa, while Brett Siegel of Clutch Points suggested Jones would likely be released if the move happened.
The Kings have been dealing with frontcourt shortages after star power forward Keegan Murray suffered a thumb injury last month. His absence forced the team to play smaller lineups and rely more on rookies Nique Clifford and Dylan Cardwell than initially anticipated.
“Achiuwa was in New York for a season-and-a-half, then signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Heat this fall but didn’t make Miami’s regular season roster due to luxury tax concerns.”
With Achiuwa joining, the Kings aim to strengthen their depleted frontcourt lineup.
Summary: The Kings bolstered their roster by signing Precious Achiuwa to strengthen the frontcourt amid injuries, waiving Isaac Jones to make room. Achiuwa brings experience from Miami, Toronto, and New York.
