BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox is participating in the Great Northern Marathon Challenge to raise money for Children In Need. She will be supported along the way by her husband and three children.
The event began on Monday, November 10, and involves Sara covering 135 miles across four counties — Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire. This totals the equivalent of five marathons over five days.
Throughout her journey, she is running, jogging, and walking through scenic moorlands, steep ridges, and the rolling hills of northern England. She will be cheered on by residents of towns and villages as well as enthusiastic Radio 2 listeners.
Sara, aged 50, regularly appears on BBC One’s Morning Live. She now lives in London with her husband, three children, and several pets, including dogs and cats. Her family has been a major source of encouragement during her challenge.
Born in Bolton, Greater Manchester, Sara first worked as a model before finding success in broadcasting. She rose to fame as a presenter on Channel 4’s The Girlie Show and later appeared on MTV and The Big Breakfast.
Her personal life has seen ups and downs, including the heartbreak of her split from her first husband, DJ Jon Carter. The couple married in a private ceremony in North London in October 2001.
