The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has highlighted common traps to watch for during Black Friday sales. This year’s retail event is expected to set new records in Australia, with Western Australia predicted to experience the highest spending surge.
The consumer watchdog is conducting a “sweep” to identify deceptive or misleading advertising practices during the sales event.
“We are focusing on ensuring that sales claims are accurate, and disclaimers are clear and not hidden,” said a representative of the ACCC.
The Australian Retail Association projects a record $6.8 billion in spending over the Black Friday weekend this year, marking a four percent increase from last year.
This surge emphasizes the importance of consumer vigilance amid aggressive marketing.
