CILEx Regulation has applied to the Legal Services Board (LSB) to allow legal executives to obtain standalone litigation practice rights, in an effort to address the uncertainty following the High Court decision in Mazur.
The LSB met with frontline regulators last week to discuss ways to respond to the Mazur judgment, which confirmed that unauthorised lawyers cannot conduct litigation.
This decision has led firms of all sizes to reassign cases from legal executives who had previously worked under supervision, assuming they could handle such work.
The application will be fast-tracked to address the Mazur fallout.
