Posters Urging South Koreans to Join Ukraine War Denounced as Russian Hoax
Images circulating online show posters that appear to invite South Koreans to fight in Ukraine. The posters claim such volunteers would receive high pay along with “the legal right to kill North Koreans.”
South Korean authorities and online investigators have condemned the materials, describing them as a “Russian disinformation attempt” intended to stir hostility between Seoul and Kyiv. The fake recruitment ads were widely shared on social media before being flagged and removed from several platforms.
Officials stressed that Ukraine has not launched any campaign to recruit South Koreans and that the content was a fabrication aimed at provoking political tension. Analysts added that such forgery tactics mirror earlier attempts by Russian-linked sources to manipulate public opinion across Asia.
“These posters are part of an obvious effort to undermine support for Ukraine and damage its diplomatic ties with South Korea,” a government spokesperson said.
The incident underscores rising concern over the use of propaganda and digital manipulation in the ongoing information conflict surrounding the war in Ukraine.
