Sudbury judge insists on probation for young impaired driver

Young Impaired Driver Receives Probation and Treatment Order

A 20-year-old G-class driver, Emily Lachance, has been sentenced to a $1,000 fine, a one-year licence suspension, and mandatory addiction counselling for impaired driving.

"Miss (Emily) Lachance: you have a bright future ahead of you... But, please engage in your counselling. Now is the time to make changes."

Ontario Court Justice Tanya Farkouh Martin expressed concern that without treatment, Lachance would not address her addiction issues. Lachance pleaded guilty to impaired driving and apologized for her actions.

Lachance must undergo treatment for alcohol and drug abuse as directed during her probation.
