Australia's Biggest Battery Storage Projects
Big battery projects in Australia have grown significantly, with current projects being over ten times larger than the first one installed eight years ago at Hornsdale.
The first big battery storage project in Australia, the "Tesla big battery" at Hornsdale, was 100 megawatts (MW) and 129 MWh, which was the largest in the world at the time.
Now, there are nearly 50 big batteries operating across Australia, with more in construction and development, surpassing the size of the Hornsdale battery, which has been expanded to 150 MW and 193 MWh.
Many of the top 10 biggest battery projects in Australia have over 10 times the storage capacity of Hornsdale, with one project having nearly 15 times the capacity.
The Hornsdale battery is dwarfed by the size of the projects being rolled out now.
