A recent survey of nearly 2,100 Amsterdam residents by AT5 has identified housing shortages, immigration, and the climate crisis as the top concerns for voters ahead of the October 29 Tweede Kamer elections.
Almost half of the respondents considered the housing market the most pressing issue, with many attributing the problem to expats and the 30 percent tax rule that gives foreign workers greater spending power.
They’re nice people, but they’re ruining the housing market, said one participant.
A respondent emphasized the need for more focus on labor migration, stating
There should be much more focus on labor migration. These people end up on the streets. Over half of the respondents expressed a desire to limit labor migration to reduce homelessness.
Trust in national politics is at a low, with over 80 percent of respondents having little or no confidence in the government, while only 1 percent expressed strong trust.
Author's summary: Amsterdam voters prioritize housing, immigration, and climate issues.
