Expansion of California's Mental Health Court

The program may now include individuals experiencing psychotic symptoms due to bipolar disorder, in addition to those with schizophrenia and other limited psychotic disorders.

Newsom called the law and its expansion an important part of his administration's efforts to bring people with serious mental illness into treatment.

Despite the expansion, questions persist about the program's effectiveness and the number of people it is helping.
