How an NFL player helped Dusty Rhodes create MVP character

Creation of the MVP Character

The idea for the MVP gimmick in WWE was inspired by an NFL star, as revealed by Andrew Goldstein, a former WWE creative team member.

Goldstein spoke to Conrad Thompson of AdFreeShows.com for The Insiders podcast, discussing how Dusty Rhodes came up with the concept.

You could just see the wheel spinning, I mean, the best example of that is MVP

At the time, MVP was in developmental, working on a version of his character, but it was still in its early stages. Goldstein, an Eagles fan, noted that it was during the time when the Eagles had Terrell Owens, which influenced the creation of the MVP character.

The character's full body suit and sports-styled presentation were brought together with the help of this inspiration, ultimately shaping the former US Champion and current AEW star's gimmick.
