Councillor says 'sneakily' parked speed van targets Laois drivers in area with incorrect Google limit

Speed Van Controversy in Laois

A Laois Councillor has spoken out against a speed van that has been "sneakily" parked in an area where Google indicates an 80kph limit, despite a recent reduction to 60kph.

Independent Cllr Aisling Moran reported that up to 50 residents have received penalty points on the road from Maganey to Tankardstown Barrowhouse.

"It has now become a monetary thing. They are trying to catch people out,"

Cllr Moran has received around 40 phone calls from mostly local people who had gotten penalty points and fines, with some individuals being caught two or three times while commuting to work.
