On Tuesday, October 14, flights at Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ) were delayed due to a cyber security incident.
The incident, which occurred between 5 p.m., involved the hacking of public address systems and screens, displaying pro-Hamas messages throughout the airports.
"The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging... and are continuing to work on restoring the PA system."
According to a post on Kelowna Reddit, the messaging was visible for about two minutes and included phrases such as "Free Palestine" and cursing out the U.S.
The City of Kelowna stated that the incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
