Feds promise to hire 1,000 RCMP personnel Canada-wide, changes to Criminal Code

Strengthening the Criminal Code

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced plans to strengthen the Criminal Code with new legislation, introducing "reverse-onus bail" and consecutive sentencing for major crimes.

The proposed changes aim to target violent and repeat offenders, including those accused of serious crimes such as violent auto theft, breaking and entering, human trafficking, violent assault, and sexual assault.

Prime Minister Mark Carney says his government plans to table the legislation next week to amend the Criminal Code.

The government also promises to hire 1,000 RCMP personnel Canada-wide.
