Menopause Myths Debunked

Research by the University of Delaware sheds new light on menopause, a widely discussed topic.

A study by UD anthropology professor Melissa Melby reveals that Japanese women experience fewer menopausal symptoms and smoother transitions into older age compared to their Western counterparts.

The Japanese perspective might provide a counterbalance, said Melby.

According to Melby, the difference in menopausal experiences between Japanese and Western women is not genetic, but rather cultural, linguistic, and medical.

Melby's book, Reframing Aging: Insights from Biology and Culture of Midlife Japanese, challenges dominant Western narratives about hormones, aging, and women's health.

Author's summary: Research challenges Western menopause myths.
