Registered Charity Secures Derelict Houses in Mayo

A registered charity in Mayo has secured three derelict houses that were previously vacant and subject to a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) during the construction of the Turlough to Westport dual carriageway in 2016/17.

The CEO of Mayo County Council, Kevin Kelly, confirmed the news at a recent monthly meeting, although the name of the charity has not been released pending finalization of the deal.

The news was widely welcomed by all councillors.

Councillor Peter Flynn of Fine Gael had proposed a motion seeking to reinvest the sale proceeds of these properties into local affordable or social homes, but amended it to apply to the three remaining properties after the charity's acquisition.

However, Mr. Kelly explained that Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) had sold the homes to Mayo County Council under strict criteria.

Author's summary: Charity acquires derelict houses in Mayo.
