For decades, Ameerpet has been synonymous with rain-induced chaos, waist-deep water, traffic jams, and stranded commuters after even moderate rainfall.
However, this monsoon brought a welcome change. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) effectively ended years of flooding misery in the locality through a focused desilting and drainage restoration drive.
Heavy inflows from Jubilee Hills, Gayathri Hills, Yousufguda, Krishnanagar, Madhuranagar, and Srinivasnagar would converge at Ameerpet, overwhelming the drainage system and turning the main road into a waterway.
This time, however, despite 10 cm of rainfall, the water drained smoothly, a result of proactive measures taken by HYDRAA under the supervision of Commissioner AV Ranganath.
As a result, 45 truckloads of debris were removed, marking a significant improvement in the area's drainage system.
