The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands council has decided to appoint a successor to the recently-resigned Coun. through an open application process.
This is the third appointment of this council term. The council voted unanimously to proceed with an open call for applications to replace the former Ward 3 Coun.
The process will involve accepting applications from qualified residents, followed by an interview process, and ultimately, an appointment by the council.
“Given the timeline until the next election, the sooner we can have someone in place for that ward, the better,”
said Coun. Angela Kelman, who was appointed to council through a similar process in 2023. Deputy Mayor Terry Fodey agreed, stating that a year is too long to leave a seat empty.
“There’s too many important things coming up, like a budget, to name one,”
he said, adding that the open application process has worked out well in the past.
