IEA Chief Calls for Greater Role of Hydropower in Electricity Supply
According to Fatih Birol, the executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), governments and policy makers should pay more attention to hydropower as a major source of low-emission flexible power generation.

Birol emphasized the importance of hydropower in a LinkedIn post, calling for a greater role for this clean energy source in global electricity systems. Currently, hydropower accounts for about 14% of the total global electricity supply.
