A chartered plane carrying approximately 60 South Koreans detained in Cambodia for their involvement in online scam operations has departed for Incheon, South Korea.
The plane took off from Techo International Airport near Phnom Penh, heading for Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul, following the deployment of a South Korean government response team to assist nationals implicated in online scams run by local crime organizations.
A South Korean college student was recently reported to have been tortured and killed in Cambodia in August, after being lured to the country by a job scam.
The incident has raised growing concerns over criminal rings targeting South Korean nationals in the Southeast Asian country.
