Two years later, no closure for family of missing Ghanaian fisheries observer

Two Years of Uncertainty for Family of Missing Ghanaian Fisheries Observer

Samuel Abayateye, a fisheries observer, went missing from a fishing boat two years ago, and Ghanaian authorities have yet to provide closure for his family.

Abayateye's family, along with the Fisheries Alliance and international organizations, have repeatedly sought answers from the Ghanaian government, but to no avail.

The family still hasn't received the results of a DNA test from a body that washed up near their home shortly after Abayateye's disappearance.

Abayateye, a father of two, was assigned to the Marine 707, a Ghana-flagged tuna-fishing vessel owned by World Marine Company Ltd.

Mongabay reached out to the Ghanaian police for details about the case but didn't receive a response.
