An accused shoplifter, Joshua Mills, has requested a psychological assessment to determine if he understands the charges against him.
Mills is accused of attempting to stab a Sterling Heights police officer with a screwdriver on Oct. 5, after leaving a Walmart on Van Dyke Avenue without paying for merchandise.
“We respect the defendant’s right to request a criminal responsibility assessment, and we will continue to pursue justice in accordance with the law and the evidence,”
said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido.
