The Role of the Kidneys
The kidneys play a vital role in filtering the body's fluids, eliminating toxins, conserving water balance, and regulating the balance of electrolytes, minerals, and proteins. Additionally, they regulate hormones and blood pressure.
Humans are luckier than most cats. If we develop kidney disease that leads to kidney failure, we can be put on dialysis, or we may be able to receive a kidney transplant.
In contrast, kidney transplants in cats are rare, expensive, and require a lifetime of comprehensive care and medication.
