Jockey Patrick Cosgrave was squeezed out to the back of the field, shortly after the gates opened, but that didn't discourage him from trying to get the horse to settle up near the speed. Five-wide as they went past the winning post the first time, Cosgrave kept pushing forward on his mount, who eventually settled in the box seat with cover.
Any plans on getting a breather before the home turn went out the window at the 800-metre mark when The Taj Mahal was set alight by James McDonald, who circled the field. Cosgrave didn't waste a second deciding to go with him. It was a decision that won the race.
