Former Murray High Teacher Arraigned on Rape and Sexual Abuse Charges
A former Murray High School teacher, 47-year-old Jason Shelby, was arraigned in Calloway Circuit Court on Monday on charges of rape and sexual abuse.
According to the Murray Sentinel, Shelby is scheduled to appear in court again on January 20th.
Shelby's arrest came after a former student alleged a sexual relationship with him in August, prompting an investigation by Kentucky State Police.
The police had initially received reports of possible sexual relations between Shelby and at least two MHS students in 2018, but lacked sufficient evidence to obtain an arrest warrant until this year.
No comment was made by the defendant or his representatives.
