This Kiwi was kidnapped in Tanzania. Now he’s ‘imprisoned’ on Netflix for a chance to win millions

Chris Williams' Unconventional Journey

Chris Williams, a 37-year-old graphic designer from Gisborne, has taken a dramatic turn in his life. In 2019, he was kidnapped in Tanzania and told to "tell us your PIN or you're dead" by four kidnappers.

Fast forward to the present, Williams is now a contestant on Netflix's Squid Game: The Challenge, where he is willingly "imprisoned" in a London studio with 456 others, competing for nearly $8 million.

Williams, who doesn't usually watch reality TV, was drawn to the show after watching the first season. He thought to himself,

"gosh you Americans are so dramatic. Us Kiwis would do this in our sleep"
, which sparked his interest in participating.

As contestant number 375, Williams is ready to face brutal physical challenges and mental mind games based on the hit Korean thriller series.
