Six Flags America in Bowie, Maryland has officially closed its doors for the last time.
The site, which opened in 1974 as a wildlife center, was sold, bought, and rebranded several times before Six Flags took over in 1999.
"I think they should keep it," park attendee Brian Fox said. "It definitely gives a lot of kids jobs, things to do during the summer. Next year, what are they gonna do?"
Hundreds visited the park one last time, while others stopped by for a photo op. The park generated about $3 million in tax revenue a year, but Prince George's County leaders believe it can do better.
The next closest amusement park is now in New Jersey.
Author's summary: Six Flags America closes permanently.
